When an improperly cleaned chimney is not properly ventilated, the heat and moisture from the flue becomes trapped, causing soot to build up. As the soot builds up, it can quickly become a serious fire hazard. Additionally, as the soot builds up, it may also become cakey or fragile, making it difficult to clean. All this can lead to a very messy clean up procedure.
Stop soot staining decorations – chimney sweeps sheets can be used to stop soot from filling a room. Conventional sheets stopped some soot ingress but sweeping was still a messy job – not popular in any household but particularly in highly decorated rooms with expensive ornaments and antiques.
