DEMOCRACY is at the heart of the community known as the Guild of Master Chimney Sweeps.

Each Guild member is valued and his or her opinion matters a great deal. That’s what really drives us – that overwhelming passion for the trade and supporting each other.

It’s also why discussions around the Annual General Meeting (AGM), which is such an important annual event, need to happen. It gives each sweep an opportunity to have their voice heard.

Note that we say ‘discussions’ rather than the AGM itself but that’s purely for practical reasons, i.e. it’s impossible timewise for every member to ask a question or have a say at the meeting itself. But if you don’t get the opportunity at the AGM you can still talk to one of the members of the Guild team personally or get in touch (phone/email) after the trade show.

“We truly are democracy in action,” says Lawson Wight, Guild chairman. “And it’s so very important that each of our members understands that he or she is valued as a professional chimney sweep and their opinion really does matter.

“Guild members may get the chance to ask a question at the AGM itself or just approach one of us during the trade show. If you think of something later, after the show – just contact us via email or phone.

“A premier trade body, such as the Guild, needs strong, decisive but also considerate leadership. The Guild team is always listening to our colleagues, to see how we can keep strengthening our community.

“That’s also important because our long-term aim is to keep equipping our sweeps: providing the industry’s highest level of resources and education utilising cutting edge techniques – so that our members’ businesses can be even more successful.

“We look forward to meeting everyone at the AGM, to share with them details of the hard-working, ongoing efforts of the team and to answer any questions. It’s going to be a dynamic, exciting get-together and we can’t wait to share all that has been happening with our fellow Guild members!”

The AGM takes place after the Guild trade exhibition officially ends at 3.30pm (very prompt) on Saturday, 2nd March. The event, for Guild members only, takes place in the Stratford Suite of the Chesford Grange Hotel, Kenilworth, Warwickshire (CV8 2LD).
